ABOUT THE ROLE

We are seeking a Deputy Editor to join Australia's Mining Monthly in Perth, Australia.

The Deputy Editor is responsible for contributing to and, alongside the Editor, deciding upon daily story selection. This work feeds into the production of newsletters and includes providing related content while staying informed on mining sector developments.

The Deputy Editor will also:

  • Act as the Editor when the Editor is unavailable
  • The Deputy Editor will also be responsible for stepping into the role of Editor whenever the Editor is unavailable
  • Delivering engaging articles, reports, and other written materials (short and long form) tailored to professionals and decision-makers in the energy sector
  • Managing the daily news schedule
  • Assign work to junior reporters

The role involves attending industry events, collaborating with the wider content team on initiatives like data journalism, and adhering to high-quality content and audience relevance standards. This position reports to the Managing Editor.

YOUR CONTRIBUTION TO THE ROLE WILL INCLUDE

  • Producing high-quality content in line with editorial guidelines, utilizing data, interviews, and high-engagement formats
  • Representing Australia's Mining Monthly at key industry events
  • Developing industry contact networks as specified by the Editor and contributing to Aspermont's Editorial Department contact directories
  • Assisting with social media and content promotion through various channels to increase readership and engagement
  • Supporting reader-engagement and subscriber-audience-building initiatives

  • Substantial editorial experience, ideally with a focus on resources, mining, business or science
  • Editing and sub-editing experience
  • Business and technical knowledge of the mining sector
  • Strong research skills for gathering credible information and analysing complex topics
  • Exceptional organizational skills to manage multiple projects while meeting deadlines
  • Familiarity with content management systems (CMS)
  • Ability to identify promotional and marketing opportunities and audience growth arising from content creation

WORKING AT ASPERMONT

We offer a hybrid working approach, allowing flexibility to work both from home and at our Perth office. While working from home, you will have the autonomy to manage your day around work priorities and meetings. On office days, you will work from a central Perth CBD location alongside team members. ABOUT THE ROLE

We are seeking an experienced, enthusiastic and talented journalist to join us as a junior reporter at Energy News Bulletin in Perth, Western Australia.

WA is a global hub for energy companies, all of whom are addressing the challenges of the energy transition. As a result there's never been a more exciting time to work on this ever-evolving news beat.

The junior reporter is responsible for writing (self-sourced as well as commissioned) engaging and informed multi-media news and feature articles on a daily basis, covering all aspects of the APAC-based energy sector.

The junior reporter will also be responsible at times for the production of social media content (primarily LinkedIn) and the daily newsletter.

We are looking for a talented, resilient self-starter, able to work fast to high standards with a passion for explaining sometimes complex issues in an engaging manner. A background in energy, finance, the wider resources industry or science is helpful but not a necessity. A good understanding of the energy landscape and a willingness to learn fast are more important.

Attending industry events and working closely with the wider content team on initiatives such as data journalism and adhering to high content quality and audience relevance standards.

The role reports into Managing Editor – Australia & ENB.

YOUR CONTRIBUTION TO THE ROLE WILL INCLUDE

  • Generating high-quality content in line with our editorial guidelines, including use of data, interviews and other high-engagement formats.
  • Representing Energy News Bulletin at key industry events.
  • Developing contact networks in the industry segments specified by the editor, and where requested, contribute to Aspermont's Editorial Department contact directories.
  • Social media and content promotion: assisting in promoting content through various channels, including social media, and participate in content distribution strategies to increase readership and engagement.
  • Aiding in the development and execution of reader-engagement and subscriber-audience-building plans and initiatives.
