For the second consecutive year winners of the Kondinin Group and ABC Rural Australian Farmer of the Year Awards have participated in a unique leadership program developed by host Kondinin Group and supported by the Department of Agriculture and Water Resources.
Held on 15th October, the day before the Awards Announcement Ceremony, the 2019 Leadership Program offered a mix of capacity building and professional development opportunities for Award winners.
Hosted at Parliament House, winners participated in a variety of activities, presentations and panel discussions led by independent leadership consultant Cath Botta.
The program provided winners a chance to enhance their business knowledge and undertake further training towards becoming effective leaders within the agricultural industry.
Session themes for 2019 included 'Developing leadership resilience‘, 'Building your brand‘ and 'Building a relationship with the media‘.
Independent Federal Member for Indi, Dr Helen Haines offered a fascinating account of her personal brand building experience prior to the 2019 election, where she became the first independent in Australian history to succeed another independent in a federal seat.
The program also featured a highly informative panel discussion by six agriculture sector leaders with a Q&A session ensuing.
The panel included National Farmers' Federation President Fiona Simpson and Australian Rural Leadership Foundation Chair Mike Carrol, with panellists providing their thoughts on the future direction and role of leaders in the Australian agricultural industry.
Kondinin Group Publishing Director Simon Tarmo said the 2019 Leadership Program built successfully on the inaugural edition in 2018 and delivered an excellent mix of high-level industry knowledge sharing together with practical skills development.
"Ahead of receiving their Awards and speaking at the official ceremony in Parliament House, winners were able to discuss and consider their roles as leaders in the agricultural sector, meet a number of heavyweights of the industry and prepare for upcoming media engagements," Mr Tarmo said.
"As in 2018, we have received great initial feedback from participants and we expect this Leadership Program for Award winners to continue to build into a real asset for the Australian agricultural sector."
